Leh sits at roughly 3,500 metres, and the passes you'll cross go well beyond that. Temperature swings of 20°C between midday sun and post-sunset cold are normal, which is why layering beats any single heavy jacket.
The non-negotiables
Diamox (with a doctor's approval), sunscreen rated for altitude UV, and a headlamp for the passes where daylight runs out faster than expected.
What people over-pack
A full trekking wardrobe for what is, for most itineraries, a road trip with short walks. Save the pack weight.
